Jan 11 Alturas Ski Report
On Saturday morning, the ninth of January, luminous golden clouds at dawn have faded to a dull gray sky dome, holding the temperature to a balmy 16 degrees at 9 a.m. The trails at Alturas lake are looking great with skate and classic lanes on Over the Hill, Sheep Thrills, South Loop and the Trail to the Lake. Wapiti has finally been cleared of the downfallen trees that had been blocking grooming there. It was packed and rolled yesterday…. but until more grading is done there today, it might be a wild ride and not recommended for the elderly, the faint hearted, or the novice skier. North Cabin Creek Trail is still not open, with a light sugary snow pack there not yet covering stumps and boulders sufficiently for grooming.
