Alturas Lake 2/5/10

On Friday, the fifth of February,  a steady snow was falling on the Sawtooth Valley. About an inch of new snow had accumulated by 9 a.m.and the temperature was 26 degrees. All of the trails at Alturas Lake except for North Cabin Creek were groomed yesterday and gleamed brightly in the sun…. the flat wide trail combed with parallel swaths of corduroy, the classic tracks pressed into the snow with geometric precision.   However,  in the warm temperatures of yesterday afternoon those parallel lines were kicked and criss crossed by skiers and jumped on by happy leaping dogs, and now this new snow is blowing across those impressions, drifting, and filling them in, once again reclaiming the landscape as Winter’s realm.

Our next grooming is scheduled for late Friday afternoon in hopes of providing high quality trails once again for your weekend skiing pleasure.
