Feb. 17 Alturas Lake ski area

Mardi Gras is over. On Ash Wednesday morning, the 17th of February, a silver tongue of fog crept silently up the Sawtooth Valley, it reached the headwaters of the Salmon River, where it rose up into morning sunlight, thinned into a golden shining mist, and then disappeared into the new blue sky. At the Alturas Lake ski area the temperature was around 10 degrees at 8:30 a.m.  A new grooming is scheduled to leave the parking area at 10 a.m. with a goal of producing resolute classic tracks and immaculate corduroy skate lanes.
