Alturas Lake ski trails EXCELLENT!
On Saturday morning, the 24th of December, 2011, the temperature at the Alturas Lake Ski Area was around 5 below 0 at 8 a.m. The soft blue sky was empty save for a thin pink cloud on the horizon announcing to the world the sun’s immanent arrival. Expect temperatures to be great for skiing by noon. Grooming on Friday brought the North Cabin Creek trail up to acceptable standards for skating for the first time this year. The Trail to the still singing Alturas Lake is totally awesome and has veteran skiers oooooing and aaaahhing with reports that it does not get much better than it is right now… wide and firm with a velvety surface. Wapiti, South Loop, and Over the Hill were also groomed. At Park Creek, the Ginzu groomer was used for the first time this year on Thursday in an attempt to even things out there a bit. But conditions are still not the best there with low snow, no classic tracks set, skating lanes that are sage brushy and Skyrocket and Larkspur trails still closed.
