Ski trails groomed but soft

On, Monday, the second of January, the good news from the Park Creek Ski Area, 7 miles west of Stanley, right up against the magnificent Sawtooth Mountains…  is that skyrocket is now open, although soft and a bit punchy.  Lupine, shooting star, camas, and sego are freshly groomed for both classic and skate.  Larkspur (dry creek) is still closed.

The news from Alturas lake is interesting as well… The trail to the lake has been rolled from the bridge all the way to the lake for soft skate touring and flat tracking  and the bench at the lake has been shovelled… we are going to try to add classic tracks out there today if we can get the tracksetter to set. As often happens this time of year North Cabin Creek Trail is temporarily closed due to flooding in the low section along the creek. And for the time being, the far end loop on Sheep Thrills trail is blocked by fallen timber… however, the rest of that trail is rolled and skiable.  Wapiti is open and soft. Trails where you will find firmest skating and classic tracks are presently South loop, Over the Hill, and the Trail to the Lake as far as the bridge.
