Good Afternoon! At this point in time, all the highways leading into Stanley should not pose too much of a problem. Most of our snow is now gone and hopefully we’ll start to dry out pretty soon! Highway 75 rarely closes this time of year, save for a spontaneous rock slide due to particularly wet weather, but typically our wonderful ITD guys can get all that cleaned up in no time. The Banks/Lowman Highway from Boise and Highway 21 both tend to have more issues with rock slides during wet weather, so just to be safe plase check the ITD website at http://511.idaho.gov. for updated information. Unless there is an extended closure, this post will not be as up to date as ITD. If you have any questions prior to making the pilgrimage to Stanley, please call the city office at (208) 774-2286 or the Chamber of Commerce starting in June at (208) 774-3411. Come on up and play!

Good Morning fellow travelers! All highways leading to Stanley are currently open. The conditions on Hwy 21 from Boise are good to fair with a dusting of snow having fallen overnight. Watch out for icy corners, but with the unseasonably warm temps we’ve been having lately, the roads should be pretty clear. Hwy 75 from Stanley to Ketchum has been seeing some windy conditions the last couple days which can lead to low visibility. A bit of snow fell overnight, so Galena may be tricky. The conditions are listed as “difficult” according to ITD. Hwy 93 from Arco to Challis and then on to Stanley also has good to fair driving conditions. Shouldn’t see any real problems. Our local buddies at ITD are out there rock bumping for you! Remember to check the ITD website at www.511.idaho.gov for up-to-date travel info. Always drive with caution! Hope to see you here – happy trails

Good Morning All! It’s a dark, cloudy morning here in Stanley with temps around 25. Highway 21 is CLOSED between Grandjean and Banner Summit due to avalanche danger. No word yet as to how long the closure may last, but I will be sure to update this post as soon as I hear otherwise. If traveling to Stanley from the Magic Valley, taking the route through Hailey and Ketchum on Highway 75 will be necessary to reach Stanley. Highwa y 75 conditions from Ketchum will most likely have packed snow on the road with some wind, so drive with caution. Highway 75 to Challis looks clear. Happy and safe travels!

Things are looking sunny in Stanley today! All highways are open with wet to packed snow conditions, especially on Galena Summit. Highway closures have been quite infrequent this year, thus far, but always check with ITD or make a call to the Stanley City Clerk at 774-2286 prior to travel after or during storms. You can view up to date highway info on ITD’s website at http://511.idaho.gov. This can help fill in any gaps in our reports. As far as the weather in concerned, there is a string of storms on their way! 50% chance tonight and tomorrow with 70% snow likely on Friday diminishing to a chance of snow on Saturday. These storms will apparently be bringing wet, snowy conditions with wind. Be prepared for messy roads. Depending on the area, heavy drifting and low visibility could also be an issue with Friday’s storm. Check back with us or check out the ITD site. Here’s to happy and safe travels!

Both highways, 75 and 21, are still open but it is currently snowing. Driving conditions are fair to difficult with packed snow on the roadways. Highway 75 to Challis doesn’t appear to be as bad as 75 to Ketchum. We will keep an eye on it, but I would remind people in your post to dial “511” to get the most up to date road report from ITD or go to their website at http://511.idaho.gov. That’s usually where I get my information unless I am able to talk to one of our local ITD drivers. It’s pretty warm snow, so the possibility of a slide is fairly likely in the next day or so. We’ll see how much snow we get. The winter storm warning is up to 12 inches above 6500 feet, 3-8 in the mountain valleys.
As for the groomer, it is still broken down. It could be another week before it is up and running. We are currently working on an agreement with Smiley Creek for them to maintain that south end of the valley trails. If we can get that taken care of today or early next week, that section of the trails will most likely be the first to get groomed. So far though, nothing has been groomed, although we haven’t had much snow. Hopefully this storm will drop a few inches at least and give us a good cover to start with.
