First report – Snow piling up
SNOW IS PILING UP IN THE SAWTOOTHS AND WE HAVE BEGUN PACKING OUT SKI TRAILS AT BOTH ALTURAS LAKE AND PARK CREEK. AT THIS TIME NEITHER SITE IS READY FOR SKIERS BUT PARK CREEK, WHERE 2 FEET OF SNOW HAS COVERED TRAILS, COULD COME ON LINE SOON. ALTURAS HAS LESS SNOW THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE VALLEY DUE TO THE WEATHER PHENOMENON KNOWN TO LOCALS AS THE INFAMOUS SAWTOOTH VALLEY DONUT HOLE EFFECT, WHERE SNOW FALLS LIKE HEAVY POWDERED SUGAR ON THE DONUT BUT LEAVES THE HOLE UNTOUCHED UNDER A CIRCLE OF CLEAR BLUE SKY. STILL, WE ARE AHEAD OF LAST YEAR’S SNOW PACK AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A YUMMY SAWTOOTH SKI SEASON. STAY TUNED!

Crust cruising Coyote
On Saturday morning, March 20th, the temperature at 9 a.m. was around 9 degrees at the Alturas Lake ski area and the sun shone brightly from a clear blue sky.
