Sawtooth Forum and Lecture Series
The Sawtooth Interpretive and Historical Association (SIHA) kicks off the 3rd year of Summer Lectures this Friday, July 2nd at 5 p.m. at the Stanley Museum.
The 2010 Lecture Series will focus on the incredible fish and wildlife that surround us here in Sawtooth Country. Talks will surely appeal to the curious of all ages. There will be presentations on the elusive wolverine and on the iconic sandhill crane. Other lecture topics include mountain lions, mountain goats, native fishes, and, of course, wolves. There will also be a terrific discussion of Idaho’s raptors with a live eagle, hawk, owl, and falcon. And, we will mix it up a little with history told through song. We are very excited about the lineup of highly qualified speakers.
New this year we are planning some Saturday Field Sessions with the lecture presenters. This will be a very special opportunity to learn more about our incredible region….attend the lectures to sign up for these events. For complete speaker bios, program notes and updates visit our website, discoversawtooth.org.
This Friday’s lecture is a terrific opportunity to learn more about the mountain lions in our area. Toni Ruth is highly qualified to talk about “Cougars and their interaction with other Predators”. Toni is a Wildlife Research Scientist with the Selway Institute established and directed by Dr. Maurice Hornocker. She is currently working on a book on cougar ecology and interaction with other carnivores in the Northern Yellowstone Ecosystem. She has been researching the effects of wolf reestablishment on the cougar population in Yellowstone National Park. This is a terrific opportunity for our community to learn more about our cougars.
Please grab a few friends and attend the lecture this and Every Friday throughout July and August. All presentations are free and open to the public. Be sure to save or print the attached schedule.
