Stanley Dog Sled Rendezvous 2010

Come join us the weekend of March 13 & 14, 2010 to celebrate the beginning of a new and exciting annual winter event for the Stanley-Sawtooth Basin.  Mushers and sled dogs from Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and everywhere in between will descend on the City of Stanley to compete in a variety of race events, each for a different dog class, including a 40 mile race, 20 mile race, an 8 mile sprint, and a junior/beginner 4 mile sprint.  Each race will start at the Mountain Village Lodge and will wind through the Forest Service trails we refer to as Nip & Tuck and Kelly Creek Loop.  We currently have the 40 mile, 20 mile, and 4 mile races set for Saturday with the 8 mile sprint and the awards ceremony taking place Sunday (awards ceremony to be held at Stanley Community Building).
With other area dog sled races taking place annually (Ashton and Fairfield), we hope to get on everyone’s calendar and become part of an Idaho dog sledding circuit!  Stanley also hopes to add a 100 mile qualifying race for the Iditarod that would run from Stanley to the Bear Valley/Lowman area and back again.  Keep your eyes out for that in the years to come.
This race has been another labor of love by Stanley business owners and full-time residents who are hoping this event, along with the previously successful Stanley Winter Festival, will help bring some life back into town during the long winter months.  Huge thanks are due to all those involved in the planning and administration of this event, including the Sawtooth NRA and the Forest Service, along with the many Stanley and Smiley Creek businesses that have generously donated.  Thank you to everyone!
Come on up and enjoy the crisp mountain air, majestic vistas, friendly folk, excitement, and good ‘ol fashioned fun the Stanley-Sawtooth Basin has to offer.
Here’s to a successful 1st Annual Stanley Sled Dog Rendezvous and many successful years to follow.
